Rockets Fun Day

The fun day held on Sunday, November 25th was a great success and was enjoyed by many Rockets families. Special thanks to all committee members who helped put the day together.

Darren Smith from the Victoria Titans was a tremendous “presenter” and certainly added to the success of the day.

Well done to all trophy winners and congratulations to those who were lucky enough to win a raffle or prize on the day.

CHARLES HEAP

Congratulations to Charles Heap on becoming Rowville Rockets latest “Life Member”.

For those of you who do not know Charles, he has served on our committee for 6 years.

He took on the position of Girls Controller, Treasurer and President for 2 years each.

Charles is currently in his second years as Vice President

of the Junior Committee at KBA.

He has two children playing with Rowville Rockets.

We believe his title of Life Member is a well deserved one.

Congratulations Charles!!!!

KILSYTH - RINGWOOD JUNIOR

DOMESTIC TOURNAMENT

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND - MARCH 9, 10, 11 - 2002

Hosted jointly by Kilsyth & Mountain District Basketball Association and

Ringwood Basketball Association, to be held at

Lilydale Basketball Stadium and Maroondah Indoor Sports Centre.

There will be A, B and C grade competitions for male and female domestic teams ranging in age from Under 8 to Under 21.

Players must be under the stipulated age at 30-Dec-2001.

Team Entry is $70, and teams are guaranteed a minimum of 4 round robin games.

Applications close on Friday February 15th.

UNIFORMS

Borrowed/Loan singlets and shorts provided by the club are for short term use only and each player in the club must eventually be assigned a playing number by the uniform officer and purchase a uniform. Please do not borrow singlets from family members, friends etc without first contacting the uniform officer to check if the intended singlet number is OK to use. This will help to keep club data accurate and avoid clashes with player numbers.

Club loan singlets can be used for the entire season in situations where two players in the same team have the same number. The uniform officer needs to be contacted when a clash of player number occurs.

If you have a club singlet or shorts that you have not returned,

please contact the uniform officer ASAP to arrange the return of the loan uniform.

Following a recent unfortunate incident at the Knox stadium regarding a theft, we would like to remind all members to keep a safe check on any valuables whilst at games.

Rowville Under 12 Girls have taken on 4 new players, Siobhan Powel, Caitlyn Petrie, Alex Stoddart and Melissa Dierickx. They have not played domestic competition before, and join Kate Payne-Gill, Sehaj Luthra and Hayley Matthews to make up our new D/Res team. These girls are full of enthusiasm and willingness to learn and play basketball. They seem to be able to combine a great training session with having fun, and that’s something all coaches like to see.

We scored 28 to 2 in the first round and went on to beat Knox in the second round, again 28 to 2. After some solid performances by Siobhan and Alex at the basket, and some great court cover by Kate. Hayley and Sehaj provided great back up on the court and at the basket, with Caitlyn and Melissa both putting in a great performance in

attacking the basket and defense. It’s a great start to the season, but somehow I think we will go up a notch or two. The coach is confident that this team will go on to bigger and better things.

We have now completed our grading games and will remain in our current grade after solid performances during this period. We lost our last 2 games to teams in the four of which one has now been promoted. I believe we have a side that can make it to the Final this season but it will be up the players to determine how much they want to

succeed.
